BPC-157: The Gut-Derived Peptide for Tendon, Joint & GI Repair
BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid fragment of a protective compound found in stomach acid. It's the most studied peptide for soft-tissue and gut recovery.
BPC-157 — short for Body Protective Compound 157 — is a synthetic stable pentadecapeptide isolated from a larger protein found in human gastric juice. It is the most widely studied healing peptide in animal models, with over 100 published papers covering tendon, ligament, muscle, bone, gut, and even neural tissue repair.
Purpose: What BPC-157 Actually Does
BPC-157 upregulates VEGF (the body's angiogenesis signal), accelerates fibroblast migration to wound sites, and modulates the nitric oxide system. The practical result in animal studies is dramatically faster tendon-to-bone healing, accelerated gut mucosal repair, and reduced inflammation around damaged joints. It does not appear to act on the central nervous system at typical doses.
Who Researches It and Why
Sports researchers use it for Achilles, rotator cuff, and patellar tendon injuries. GI researchers use it for IBD-model rats, where it heals colonic lesions in days. Orthopedic studies show faster muscle crush recovery. Human data is limited but anecdotal reports — particularly for tendinopathy — are unusually consistent.
Typical Dosing
Research protocols use 250–500 mcg subcutaneously once or twice daily. Many users inject close to the injury site (e.g. lower abdomen for gut, near the affected tendon for orthopedic use), although systemic absorption appears similar from any subcutaneous site. Safety & Side Effects
BPC-157 has one of the cleanest safety profiles of any research peptide. Mild injection-site irritation and occasional dizziness are the most reported issues. There are no documented serious adverse events at research doses, but long-term human safety data does not exist.
